Technological trend of "Smart Ports" and its influence on portperformance in the Colombian Caribbean region

Introduction: Technological trends have permeated all productive and industrial scenarios
since the 21st century, bringing improvements to processes. In the port context, the ideal concept for automation and sustainability has been presented as the "Smart Port" by the Inter-American Development Bank (BID). Objective: To determine the technological trends of Smart Ports and their influence on the port performance in the Caribbean region. Methodology: The research approach is Mixed, as some objectives are addressed
quantitatively and others qualitatively. This involves adopting descriptive statistical tools and bibliographic information for the results. Results: The Internet of Things, blockchain, energy storage, and mobile applications stand out as the most representative trends globally. Conclusions: The concept of smart ports has been justified by the Colombian government
through digital transformation. Additionally, the aspects of energy sustainability and
Industry 4.0 pose challenges for port activities in the Caribbean.
