Abstract

Abstract
This article attempts to address the concept of competitiveness and contribute to its critical understanding from the context of the increasingly complex dynamics of globalization and decentralization, these trends result of scientific and technological development attended by the twentieth century, and whose logical development must adapt society in general, and businesses as corporate actors. In this global context, those competing, as noted by the business guru Michael Porter, are not yet countries (based on comparative advantages among its national wealth) but businesses, based on efficiency and productivity as new corporate values that define being competitive. Then competitive must be looked today from two complementary angles: The nations and supranational integration processes, and business, and strategically link it to the knowledge society, for further strengthening and increasing the productive sectors within and also within their vicarious agents, such as research centers.
