Author Guidelines

PRESENTATION

Pensamiento Americano Journal is a scientific publication that circulates biannually since 2008 in print, and through the web since 2013. It’s responsible for publishing research articles, reflections, or theoretical reviews that contribute to relevant debates in the field of Social Sciences, in Spanish, English or Portuguese, which will be referred by experts in the topics the papers address; that will be in the form of double-blind, which indicates that the writer does not know the ref and vice-versa.

Pensamiento Americano Journal is addressed to academics, researchers and other actors in the scientific community in the areas of Social Sciences, such as Law, Anthropology, History, Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Cultural Studies, Economics, Education, Social Work, etc.

Rules for submitting articles

Pensamiento Americano Journal publishes research, reflection, review and book reviews as proposed by COLCIENCIAS through PUBLINDEX typology.

a) Articles of scientific and technological research or reports of original empirical studies.

These express in detail original scientific research results completed, and the following chapters or sections are stipulated as content: Introduction (problem statement, background development, objectives, aims and foundations of the research); Method (methodology, participants, tools or instruments, procedure); Results (rigorous, comprehensive and sufficient report of information obtained from the application of instruments, from a statistical analysis or interpretation if it was qualitative) that is supported in tables and figures with its respective titles and sequential numbering in order of appearance –are assumed as figures graphs, drawings, photographs– interpretive tables); Discussion (findings must be evaluated from the –theoretical– basics of research and from its meaning in the same context from which it obtained, its implications or importance, scope and limitations, in addition to the possible investigations that would result from them). Integration is also accepted, first between results with their arguments, and between conclusions and recommendations. While there, a section entitled Conflict of Interest should be opened where the authors account for them, whether these are economic, political, religious or any other grounds. They can also express the respective acknowledgements to individuals and/or institutions contributed to the development of research that led to the synthesis paper presented. Finally References are presented in strict alphabetical order and in strict accordance with the quoted within the text of the article, following the structure established by the American Pshychological Association (APA) style.

b) Reflection article. Document stating results of completed research from an analytical, interpretative or critical perspective of the author, on a specific topic, going to original sources.

c) Review article. Document result of a completed research analyzing, systematizing and integrating the results of published or unpublished researches, on a field of science or technology, in order to account for the progresses and development trends. It is characterized by a careful and thorough literature review of at least 50 authors.

d) Book reviews. Its size should not exceed two pages and its language must be attached to scientific rigor.

Letter Font Times New Roman, size 12 points, double-spaced text, left justified, except in tables and figures.

Author(s) submitting an article to the Pensamiento Americano Journal fill the format of article pre- sentation which says that the article is not being evaluated in another journal, also supports that the document is unpublished or original.

The economic rights of the articles that are accepted for publication in Pensamiento Americano Journal are granted by the author(s) to the publishing house to be published and distributed in printed form and on the website of the Journal. However, as required by law, the author(s) keep their moral rights.

Articles must present a correspondence between citations and references considering publishing standards of the American Pshychological Association (APA), here are some examples:

Direct quote

The direct quote is extracting fragments or textual ideas as they appear in the original text and/ or other works published, in this case the author’s surname is placed, the year published and the page(s) from where it is extracted. This varies depending on the form of citation emphasis that may be on the author or the text.

Quote from 40 words or less

When the quote is less than 40 words, a text is included in the paragraph in English or Spanish quotes, period is written after completion of the quote and all data.

They are fragments extracted from a text as they appear and exceed 40 words, these are written on a separated paragraph, indented, with a minor size in the same font being used, without quotation marks and at the end of the quote a period is placed before the data. This varies depending on the form of citation emphasis that may be on the author or the text.

Summary or paraphrase

In this the author’s ideas of the published text are expressed, but not in textual form but using words or interpretations of the author, in this is necessary to include the author’s surname and year of publication. This varies depending on the form of citation emphasis that may be on the author or the text.

Three to five authors

List all the authors in the signal phrase or in parentheses the first time you cite the source. In subsequent citations, only use the first author’s last name followed by “et al.” in the signal phrase or in parentheses.

Six or more authors

Quote the surname of the first author followed by et al. and the year, from the first quottation.

Organization as an author

When for the first time in the article, place the full name of the corporation followed by the acro- nym and the year, then only place the acronym and the year.

References

A reference list quote sites works that specifically support the article. All authors quoted in the body of the article must be included in the reference list, should not be referenced as an author that has not been quoted in the paper.

The reference list is 1.5 spaced each reference should be hanging indent and alphabetically ordered by the surnames of the authors, to indicate volumes Arabic numbers are placed.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

The Journal Pensamiento Americano is a scientific publication that circulates biannually since 2008 in printed form and through the network from, is responsible for publishing unpublished research articles, reflections or theoretical revisions that contribute to relevant to the field of social science debates, in Spanish, English or Portuguese, which will be referred by experts in the topics that address written, this will be in the form of double-blind, indicating that the writer does not know the referee and vice versa. All costs of the evaluation process, editing, graphing and others are made by the editorial Seal Coruniamericana

SUBMIT AN ARTICLE

To submit an article to the American Thought Magazine, this must be accompanied by a cover letter requesting publication of the article in the magazine. Similarly, it is important to note that the article has been approved by all the authors who appear in it. articles shall not be considered for publication with the following characteristics:

  • Previously published in another disseminator.
  • A translation or use of material protected by intellectual property rights.
  • Class notes.
  • Items that are offensive or violate what is stated in the statement of ethics

Authors should consider:

  • The authors send their articles through Open Journal System, after registration as a user as role - author.
  • Authors must load Microsoft Word ® items in its original version and the same formal Load supporting files
  • Authors should complete the registration of the articles and send it, along with the Cover Letter, Resume, and document authors engagement. All as an attachment, through the Open Journal System (OJS).
  • Once the above documents are properly sent through the OJS, the system will send an acknowledgment to the author registered in the system. All communication regarding the article and the process of supplementary material will be conducted through registered email the lead author.
  • If the article is accepted for publication, authors should read carefully and complete the transfer of economic rights, it must be signed by all authors and delivered when approving the final version for publication.

 

GUIDELINES FOR THE REVIEWER / A

 

Guidelines for the reviewer / a

Peer review is an important process within the scientific publication that largely guarantees the quality and relevance of the manuscripts submitted for publication, for this reason, should be done with utmost care and responsibility possible.

Duties of reviewers:

  • Contribution to the editorial decision
  • celebrity
  • confidentiality
  • Objectivity
  • Disclosure of conflicts of interest

The evaluation process for articles submitted to the  Journal pensamiento Americano is double-blind, assigning peer reviewers who are specialists of recognized expertise in the subject, in which both assessors and authors know their identities. Evaluators examine the items in terms of quality, originality, relevance and issue their technical judgments about possible publication. According to the format established for this format Evaluation items.

After verifying that the subject of the referred article is within your area of expertise, the reviewer has one (1) month from the date of receipt of the item, to deliver their assessment of the manuscript.

Evaluators should make the exercise of impartial and confidential manner and in full freedom to communicate potential conflicts for evaluation, either by conflicts of academic, professional or personal interest, regarding the article that are asked to evaluate.

For evaluation pairs have an evaluation form that are given along with the article, to facilitate their reading and response on the relevance and possible publication of the article. With the help of the evaluator evaluation form pair may deliver its opinion under one of the following alternatives:

The article recommended as it is presented.

  • The article can be accepted after minor revisions described in the written report of the evaluation.
  • The article can then accept to make major revisions described in the written report of the evaluation.
  • The article is not accepted for publication.
  • Someone added me as assessor should review the article before being accepted.

Once the results of peer evaluation are received, the Editorial Board of the journal analyzes the responses and considering comments from peer reviewers and international editor for the English language makes decisions on the publication of the article.

The magazine is inclined to the double-blind evaluation, especially to ensure fairness in assessments and in any case the identity nor the authors nor the reviewers will be revealed.

 

 

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The article is adjusted according to the APA standards (latest update) in the citation and referencing
  • The cover of the article must have a Title in the original and alternative language, as well as an abstract and keywords. If the article is in Spanish, the alternative language will be English.
  • Authors: They must provide their Orcid code, studies, place of work and city, email, and for Colombian authors they must have their CvLAC updated.
