Abstract

Introduction: Mass media play a relevant role in the relationship between the San Francisco de Asís Educational Institution and the educational community, as they facilitate interaction, collaboration, and the flow of information, which are fundamental aspects for students’ academic development. Objective: To describe the implementation and perceptions of the educational community regarding the use of mass media in the institutional context. Methodology: A quantitative study with a descriptive scope, using a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. A survey was administered (a 10- item closed-ended questionnaire using a four-point Likert scale) to 250 participants (teachers, students, and caregivers), who were randomly selected. Data were processed using descriptive statistics (frequencies and percentages) and organized into tables using spreadsheet tools. Results: The results indicate that the educational community recognizes the pedagogical potential of mass media; however, it also identifies risks associated with the inappropriate use of social networks, particularly in relation to school coexistence and academic distraction. Conclusions: It is concluded that strengthening media literacy processes and institutional support is necessary to promote responsible, critical, and educational use of mass media in the school context.
