Exploring relationship between age and environmental sustainability behaviors among students at Simón Bolívar University

Introduction: In recent years, there has been growing interest in recognizing age as a key element of diversity and inclusion in higher education, considering it a valuable means of promoting sustainable behaviors. Objective: To explore the relationship between age and environmental sustainability behaviors among students of the Psychology Program at Universidad Simón Bolívar in Barranquilla, Colombia. Methodology: A survey with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.871 was administered to 82 students from the Psychology Program at Universidad Simón Bolívar. Results: The findings indicate that the relationship between age and environmental sustainability behaviors among students is most evident between the ages of 22 and 23 (p < 0.005; observed value = 0.018). Conclusions: This finding reinforces the idea that age acts as a determining factor in the development of greater moral and ethical sensitivity toward behaviors consistent with the principles of environmental sustainability.
